Marathon Canoeing is a grueling test of stamina requiring strength and endurance as well as excellent boat-control and river reading skills.
Marathon:
The racers start at St. Pat's, go south (upstream) to the Turn-Around Island (across the street from Pinhook Park). They round the island clockwise (this is the only clockwise turn; all others are counter-clockwise!) and go north (downstream) past St. Pat's to the Bertrand Rd. Bridge. They go upstream to St. Pat's for their 1st portage, back in and up to the Darden Rd. Bridge, and back to St. Pat's. At St. Pat's, they'll get out again for a portage, up to Auten Rd. and back again finally to St. Pat's Park.
Half Marathon
This year, the Half Marathon course starts at St. Pat's and goes south (upstream) to the Darden Rd. Bridges. There's a buoy just past the Pedestrian Bridge they'll turn around. The paddlers come north (downstream) to St. Pat's and turn around a, to the Bertrand Rd. Bridge. They then go back upstream to the Auten Rd. Bridge. Finally, they come back to St. Pat's Park.
Fluid Fun Fun Race:
The Fun Racers will start at St. Pat’s, go upriver to the Auten Rd. Bridge, then back downriver to St. Pat’s.
Memorial Hospital Duathlon
The Duathlon course is the same as 2007. The Duathletes will do the trail run first and finish the duathlon with the paddle. Their trail run will be on St. Pat's hiking trails. The run ends by running down the innertubing hill to their boats staged on the beach. Their paddle course will be the same as the Fun Race--they start at St. Pat's, go upstream (south) to Auten Rd. and then back to St. Pat's for the finish.
Aluminum canoes are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registrants are first-served.
Great family event--parent/child racers and partner racers.
Families and spectators should bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic lunches!
Food for racers will be provided.
There is no smoking allowed anywhere in the park.
Spectators can cheer on the racers along Riverside Dr., which runs right along the marathon race course.
A pedestrian bridge at Darden Rd. provides great views of the marathon and half-marathon racers.
Family-friendly location at St. Patrick's Park includes picnic sites, trails, and playground.
Arrive early!
